Assistant Quantity Surveyor
I joined Signia in November 2013 after completing a bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying. As a graduate quantity surveyor I was responsible for a range of tasks. These functions were dependant on the type of project I was working on and the stages they were at.
My first major project was Alpine Place. This consisted of four new build blocks totalling 149 apartments, eight commercial units and five live work units. I was responsible for monitoring variations to any sub-contract orders and advising on the cost implications of such variations. During the course of the project, I gained a good working knowledge of the different types of sub-contracts and the issues which may arise throughout their course. By the end of the project, I had a better understanding of them and, most importantly, the implications (both practical and financial) of varying them. I also learnt that good negotiation skills are key to my role.
Signia has grown significantly and I see myself as an important part of a growing and effective team.
